RENSSELAER COUNTY WANTS TO KEEP SALES TAX AT 8%.(CAPITAL REGION)

TROY -- With communities reluctant to give up nearly $4 million in revenue, Rensselaer County will appeal to the state Legislature to keep its sales tax at 8 percent.

Legislative chairman Neil J. Kelleher said the consensus of all the mayors, supervisors, town and county lawmakers attending a meeting he called Wednesday night was that they didn't want to plan budgets without the added funds from the increase in the sales tax.

For some towns and villages, it's either obtain the revenue from the sales tax or increase property taxes.
